The Design of the Part will determine How it should be Cleaned

The design of the parts being cleaned will provide much of the information we at Zenith will need to manufacture the appropriate ultrasonic cleaner.  Do the parts have blind holes?  If so, where are they located? What are the contaminants? What are the particle sizes being removed?  What is the material of construction?  Are there any areas subject to air entrapment?  Are the parts subject to damage by ultrasonic energy? The answers to these questions will provide the data necessary to design the perfect ultrasonic cleaner for the application.

If parts are subject to air entrapment, rotation of the parts may be required AFTER submersion to release the entrapped air.  Ultrasonic cleaners will not be able to remove contaminants in these areas.  Zenith can manufacture such systems to do the job for you, or will simply provide the advice necessary for you to do the job manually.

Material of construction will determine the type of cleaning fluids that will be most appropriate.  Aluminum components require less aggressive cleaners to prevent damage.  Brass and copper may require acidic cleaning fluids to remove oxidation and brighten the material.  Steel parts can be cleaned with even the most aggressive cleaners in most cases.

Not only will material of construction determine the type of cleaning fluid, but may also modify the power and frequency of the ultrasonic cleaner.  Highly polished aluminum components may be quickly damaged by ultrasonic cleaners with excessive power, or improper ultrasonic frequency selection.  Hard disks used in every computer in the world would be destroyed in less than 10 seconds, even with medium frequency ultrasonic cleaners.

Parts with blind holes typically require proper positioning to ensure that contaminants are released into the cleaning fluid, and to ensure that these holes drain and fill consistently and fully.  In some cases, custom rotational fixtures are required for the best possible performance.

If parts are manufactured of softer material, such as plastics, more ultrasonic power will be required, and frequencies typically are in the low range.  Softer parts will also completely shadow ultrasonic energy, preventing it from passing through the part to reach other parts in the tank.  Metal parts allow much of the energy to pass through, depending upon the thickness and density of the material.  The cleaning of these softer components will require a perfectly matched ultrasonic cleaner.

As you can see, the design of the part being cleaned will provide much of the information we need to give you the answers you need.  Our sales engineers will evaluate your parts, and will provide you with the information you need to be sure that a Zenith ultrasonic cleaner would be your best cleaning equipment option.
